We Have Moved... and we're moving again

Well, it's the end of week 1, and we've done a lot: got here, opened a US bank account, applied for Social Security numbers, seen 3 potential rental properties, and eaten more ice cream than is good for me (or so I'm told).

A lot has happened today. Firstly, we moved out of the apartment we were in this week, stuffed everything we have with us into our trusty rental car, and were officially homeless for 4 hours. We then moved into our real temporary apartment, which is potentially ours until October the 1st. It's just round the corner from the old one, still in Sunnyvale, but it's a lot nicer, with more space.

Secondly, we signed up to rent a house. It was by far the nicest of the three we saw, and is just a couple of blocks from downtown Palo Alto - 7 minutes walk both to Blue Bottle Coffee and to the Apple store! It's also 10 minutes walk to the Caltrain station, which makes it nice and easy to get around, and gives me the option of not driving to work, which is pretty exceptional here. It's a beautiful house, built in 1905, with a veranda and an area we now seem to be calling "the craft room". It felt like a very good fit for us, and it's rare for something so convenient and so good to come up on the market, so we signed up. There's plenty of room for guests!

Having moved to this new apartment, we can actually receive mail, and waiting for us here were our shiny new social security cards, which are needed for just about everything. We were also able to finally unpack all our stuff; it's going to be nice to no longer have to rifle through suitcases looking for something that we just know we brought with us.

So having somewhat got settled, it's off to New York for a work trip for 3 days next week. We're not going to stand still much for the next couple of months!
