Entering the US and Day One

After 11 hours on a plane, pretty much the last thing you want to do is spend an hour and a half in a queue, waiting to be seen by the US CBP. About the only thing worse would be if the CBP officer looked at your paperwork and then said, "Hmm, that doesn't look right. They usually use a blue pen for these, and this bit isn't even filled in. I'll have to ask someone else about this."

Having navigated that minor trial, we retrieved our luggage, found Rhonda our local guide, and quickly made it down to the first of what will be two temporary apartments in Sunnyvale.

Our first day in the US was spent picking up our rental car (a mighty Toyota Corolla), touring around potential areas where we could live, and visiting an Open House at one rental to get a feeling for size (houses here are advertised in terms of square feet, and typically without floorplans or measurements, so it's hard to relate to the size we're used to in the UK). We also went to the weekly farmer's market in Mountain View - peaches are clearly in season!

Today we're off to get Social Security numbers and a bank account, and maybe visit some more houses. Tomorrow I actually have to go to work :-(.
