Are We The Baddies?

Welcome, confused reader, as this week I go about righting the wrongs in your moral compass. What should I be confronted with when walking down the street this morning, minding my own business, than a light aeroplane towing this sign behind it:

If your backwards reading skills aren't what they once were, this says, "Congratulations to the Stanford graduates boycotting working at Facebook and Google", and it was being flown conspicuously over the university this morning. Things like this bring back that classic quote: "are we the baddies?"

To be painfully honest reader, I'll have to let you sort that one out for yourselves, but in my experience, the answer is never 100% yes, and it's never 100% no either. Clearly someone here has a bit of a grudge against Big Tech and that's not entirely uncommon in these parts, although it's more of a San Francisco thing than a South Bay thing if I'm honest. But still, the right to peacefully protest is enshrined in the constitution, even with little banners in the sky.

It's been election week here, and following what's actually been going on has been tricky at times. When I say election, what I actually mean is primary, which is a vote to see who will go through to the real election in November; it's the semi-finals, if you will. As I previously reported, we've been bombarded with TV adverts about these elections, but candidates that have no concerns about making the cut for the final election (e.g. Governor Gavin Newsom) haven't really bothered campaigning at all.

Having this semi-final before the real thing also means we're in the weird scenario where, for some offices, the two candidates to choose between in November are from the same party. This is, for example, true for the Congressional district in which we live, where the two finalists are both Democrats. Even the 1922 Committee would have trouble inventing something that made less sense than this.

It's also been quite a sporty week, with the Golden State Warriors in the championship final of the NBA against the Boston Celtics. After 4 games, the final series is now tied at 2-2 and in a bit less than a week, we'll know who comes out on top. What's more, the San Francisco Giants have once again been unable to decide whether they're awful (losing on the road to the Colorado Rockies, who are one of the least good teams in baseball this year) or amazing (handing out a 3-0 series defeat to arch-rivals the LA Dodgers this weekend). Honestly, reader, don't you think they're missing Buster Posey now he's retired?

So the election fun may be over for the next few months, but we're still waiting with baited breath to see whether Stephen Curry can do the business, and if the Giants can make a season of it. I can say categorically that these folks are not the baddies.
